Civil War Swords - U.S. Foot Officer's Sword
As all swords used during the Civil War, they were more effective during the early years of the war and as new modern weapons such as breech-loaders, repeating rifles and machine guns were introduced the sword became less effective and could only be used in close battles.
The leather grip is spiral wire bound and foliate designs that are cast into the hand guard. It was designed for one on one close battles for the officers leading the charge. This is a very popular civil war sword, especially with collectors.
