Civil War Swords - Trooper's Sword
As all swords used during the Civil War, they were more effective during the early years of the war and as new modern weapons such as breech-loaders, repeating rifles and machine guns were introduced the sword became less effective and could only be used in close battles.
This Civil War cavalry sword features wood grip with inset brass braid, brass hilt, 3-bar swept brass handle, 34" curved carbon steel blade and polished steel scabbard. Its purpose was for use by cavalry, but after battles if there weren't enough cavalry men left to claim the sword, foot soldiers would take them and use them in battle. The curved blade was ideal for the cavalry soldier on a horse, was not intended for man to man use, but it gave the foot soldier another way to protect himself if his unit was being over run.
