Silver Sheriff Cochise County Badge
At one point this Cochise County Sheriff badge was worn John H. Behan who took up with the Clanton gang. The Clanton's were a large ranching family of outlaws, led by N.C. "Old Man" Clanton and his sons Peter, Joseph Isaac or "Ike", Phinias or "Phin", and Billy. Sheriff Behan was reportedly on the Clanton payroll to overlook illegal activities. Behan, along with his crooked deputies, looked the other way while the Clanton-McLaury gang rustled cattle, held-up stagecoaches, and parcelled out spoils to the corrupt sheriff.
Later this badge was worn by Cochise County's now famous John Slaughter from 1887 to 1891 who was honest and highly respected lawman.
