Civil War Officer's Sword Knot
As all Civil War swords and accessories, they were more effective during the early years of the war and as new modern weapons such as breech-loaders, repeating rifles and machine guns were introduced the sword became less effective and could only be used in close battles.
Civil War Officer's Sword Knot was stylish and also served a purpose. The knot was gold half-inch wide ribbon and was 18" long with a basket-worked tassel. It also had a matching gold slide. Its purpose was to prevent separation or loss during battle so the carrier would not be left defenseless. Do to the cost and limited availability it was reserved for Officer's only.
