Civil War Confederate N.C.O.'s Sword
As all Civil War swords, they were more effective during the early years of the war and as new modern weapons such as breech-loaders, repeating rifles and machine guns were introduced the sword became less effective and could only be used in close battles.
The Confederate N.C.O. Sword has a carbon steel blade, brass handguard and pommel, steel scabbard with brass fittings. The sword was made by several swordmaking companies in the South during the course of the war and the design generally followed the official Union pattern of 1840. It was a favorite of the Confederate Officer's, but as the war dragged supplies and replacements were difficult to come by because of the lack of money.
